Sunni and Shia
The Muslims are split into two main sectors, the Sunnis and the Shias. The split originates in a dispute soon after the death of the Prophet Muhammad over who should lead the Muslim community. The majority of the Muslims are Sunnis, approximately 75% of the Muslims are Sunnis in Pakistan. There have been violent clashes between the sectors in Pakistan since the 1980s. The competition caused by differing political and religious views between the sectors has contributed to the sharp rise in tension amongst the people.
The Shia communities often make up the poorest part of society and are mindful of their minority status, they view themselves as oppressed and discriminated against. (S.B., 2013)

Caste system
Castes systems are present in Pakistan’s society. The society is divided into subgroups known as Quoms. Every Quom is assigned a profession and intermarriages between each Quoms are not allowed. The Quoms are also not allowed to live in the same community. They are mainly present in the Punjabi community. The higher occupational castes consist of the Rajputs, Jats, and Arains. Children are automatically part of the caste that their parents are.
