Poor healthcare system
Pakistan’s life expectancy is at 66.71 years as of 2013.
Pakistan spends only 2.5% of its Gross Domestic Product as of 2011 on health. The little money spent on healthcare has caused it to be very flawed. The country’s poor healthcare is due to both poverty and the government’s inability to place sufficient basic medical facilities such as hospitals around the country. A basic transport system would also allow those in need of medical attention especially in the rural areas to have better access to medical facilities. Approximately 5% of the country’s death is due to long distance travelling which result in the patient being unable to receive prompt treatment. Another issue faced is when women are pregnant, they have to travel long distances to receive prenatal check-up. Some women may even suffer from miscarriage due the unavailability of medical facilities. (Wasif, 2013)
For patients who require a constant prescription of medicine require surgery, they are unable to get suitable treatment due to the high medical charges. Hospitals in Pakistan are supplied with expensive drugs which also results in expensive medical fees. (Salahuudin, 2012)
