rural poverty
With almost two thirds of the population living in rural areas, they make up 80% of Pakistan’s poor people. Amongst these people living in rural regions of the country, most of them work as farmers. However, most of them are small farmers who own little or no land or livestock. This also results in low income, causing them to remain under the poverty line.(Rural Poverty in Pakistan, n.d.)
In remote areas where most of these farmers reside, the dry land causes it to be hard to cultivate. With little water resources in Pakistan, these farmers face difficulties of getting water for irrigation. Despite agriculture accounting for almost one-fifth of the country’s economy, rural farmers earn little income and could possibly remain living under the country’s poverty line for years.(Rural Poverty in Pakistan, n.d.)
